Cartoons or animated television series have become a part of our society. It’s a fun pastime that children and adults enjoy. Many cartoon series have come and gone but there are others that have enjoyed an impressive longevity.
Let’s take a look at some of the longest running cartoons.
Debuted in 1989, this animated show now has produced 27 seasons, 596 episodes and is still currently in production. With its simplicity, relevance, and appeal to both kids and adults, it seems to stay forever.
Already on its 19th season, this animated family cartoon has shown 267 episodes now and is still currently in production. They tackle almost any topic under the sun. In one of its silliest episodes, you can see the father playing some trumpets akin to those found at http://windplays.com/. I can’t help but laugh every time I remember this episode.
The animated TV series Arthur has already aired 239 episodes through its 21 seasons. It is currently in production so we’re expecting to see more of its funny jokes.
The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show
The well-loved bunny series had a total of 387 episodes in 14 seasons which was shown between 1987 and 2000 for a total of 13 years.
Space Ghost Coast to Coast
Produced by Cartoon Network and mainly shown in major American television channels, this adventure cartoon had 14 seasons with 110 episodes throughout its run.
King of the Hill
This 2D animated series about a middle-class American family has shown a total of 259 episodes divided into its 13 episodes.
This cartoon television show might be looking at duplicating the success of Simpsons. Family Guy is an adult themed animated series. At present the show has produced 269episodes in 14 episodes and is still in production.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
As early as the 80’s, these turtle heroes have already filled the imagination of kids. They have since evolved and have undergone countless re-runs with new series, prequels, sequels and even movie adaptations. This classic cartoon series has produced 10 seasons, 193 episodes.
SpongeBob Square Pants
Still enjoyed by many kids till this day, SpongeBob takes you into his underwater world and his adventures. The series has produced 204 episodes has ran 9 seasons, and is still under production.
This animated series about a mischievous baby and his equally mischievous baby-friends ran for 9 seasons with 172 episodes.
Created by Matt Weitzman, Mike Barker and Seth MacFarlane, this animated sitcom is not really intended for the young ones but for adult viewers. It debuted in 2005 and has since had 13 seasons with 212 episodes.
Completing the round up of the longest running TV cartoons are Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, Beavis and Butthead, The Flintstones, and Futurama.
Oh before I forget, there’s actually one TV cartoon that’s been running twice as long as Simpsons – it’s the Japanese anime Tetsujin 28-go which was first produced in 1963 and was also released in the American market as Gigantor. Not many may actually remember or even know about this anime series but it actually holds the title as the longest running animated show ever.
