My Favorite Comic Books Storylines

Comic books tell some of the greatest stories, the stories that I still remember to this day after reading them as a kid. The coolest part about comics that their story can unfold over a period of years and events that seemed small at the time can actually turn into massive important events. The stories I’m about to share with you are my personal favorites from years of reading comics and obsessing about story arcs. Here you are! Enjoy!

Injustice: Gods Among Us (Years 1-5)

This comic book arc is based on a 2013 video game of the same name. And I truly believe it to be one of the best comics that DC has ever published. This story is set in a world where the Joker used a gas to make Superman hallucinate. He believed that Lois was Doomsday, and took her out into space and killed her. When he realized what he had done he killed the Joker, breaking his cardinal rule (to never kill) and set up a one-world dictatorship with him as the ruler. He allied himself with the Yellow Lantern Corps and used fear to stop all crime, but also crushed anyone who opposed him. In the various arcs, he fights against the Justice League, the Green Lantern Corps, the Magic Users, and the Gods. This story is one of the coolest Superman stories I know.

Avengers vs. X-men

This is another massive fight comic, this time from Marvel. When the Phoenix force gives several of the x-men massive powers beyond belief, the mutants of the world became the rulers and forced everyone to bend to their will. The Avengers appreciated the idea of a new world, but did not like the idea of everyone being forced to comply with the x-men. So, the Avengers tried to reason with the mutants, but were rebuffed. So they decided the only way was to defeat the x-men in a fight, so they all took sides and fought against each other. It was a massive world war… But I’m not going to tell you who won it! Some of the coolest battles are with Luke Cage, who has a skin so powerful that when dogs are sent to attack him they just can’t break his skin. He doesn’t have to distract them with dog toys from Dogs Rant; he can just go along his way!

Flashpoint

This comic features my favorite superhero, the Flash. He goes back in time to save his mother from death, but changes the whole world. Superman was found by the government and imprisoned as a baby, and Aquaman and Wonder Woman fight for control of the planet. However, the biggest one is Batman: in this world, Bruce Wayne was shot and out of grief Thomas Wayne became a Batman who kills and uses guns, while Martha Wayne became The Joker. This comic is a great reversal of most comic stories.

I love just curling up and reading long comic arcs for hours; I often sit with my dogs while they play with their awesome interactive dog toys, and I have a beer and read some Marvel or DC. I can’t think of a better evening!
